Profile

Mr. Henry Sharp

I have been a substantive Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon since January 2004.

For your convenience, I have outpatient clinics and operate on my Private Patients at BMI Chaucer Hospital in Canterbury and The One Hospital in Ashford. My Children’s (Paediatric) outpatient practice is based at The One Hospital too.

I am also a Director of Quadrant ENT LLP, which is a team of 5 ENT Consultant Surgeons contracted to provide ENT Services to Benenden Hospital in Cranbrook, Kent under the specific terms of the Benenden Society Healthcare Scheme.

My NHS practice is at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust (EKHUFT). I have outpatient clinics and operate at both The Kent and Canterbury Hospital in Canterbury and The William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

I am able to offer you and your family a bespoke and up to date service in the diagnosis and treatment of all aspects of Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery, but have sub-specialist expertise in the Medical and Surgical treatment of problems that arise with the structure and function of the nose (a Rhinologist and Nasal Plastic Surgeon.)

My particular surgical interest is in Rhinoplasty (a ‘nose-job’, or operation to alter the shape of the nose) and Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (F.E.S.S) which is surgery performed on the nose and sinuses for long standing sinus problems and nasal polyps. I perform many of these operations per week, and prospectively measures and monitors the results of my Treatment and Surgery via validated questionnaires and careful post-operative follow up (please see ‘My surgical results’ if you are interested.)

Education

I qualified in Medicine (MBBS) at St Thomas’ Hospital in London, and received basic ENT training in Oxford and at Charing Cross and The Brompton Hospitals in London.

My higher surgical training as a Specialist Registrar in ENT Surgery was undertaken in London. I was based at Guys, St Thomas’ and Kings Hospitals, and also received super-specialised paediatric training at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and The Evelina Childrens Hospital at St Thomas’ Hospital.

In 2003, I undertook a Fellowship in advanced Sinus Surgery and Facial Plastic Surgery at an internationally renown centre in Fulda, Germany with Professor Wolfgang Draf, sponsored by a Bursary from The Royal Society of Medicine.

Qualifications

I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) in both General Surgery and in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery and an accredited Surgeon by the Specialist Advisory Committee in Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.

At the completion of my training I was awarded my Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) by the Specialist Training Authority of the Royal Colleges of Surgery.

I am a member of The British Medical Association (BMA), The Royal Society of Medicine (RSM), The British Association of Otorhinolaryngologists – Head and Neck Surgeons (ENT-UK), The British Rhinological Society (BRS), The European Rhinologic Society (ERS) and The European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery (EAFPS).

I have a long standing interest in teaching and research – please click on these links if you wish to read my Curriculum Vitae or the research papers I have written.

Other responsibilities

In 2021, I was elected by my peers onto the Council of the British Rhinological Society, the representative body of all the nose and sinus Surgeons throughout the whole of the UK.

I was the Lead Clinician and managerial representative for ENT Services at East Kent Hospitals University Foundation NHS Trust (EKHUFT) from 2011 to 2014.

I was The Royal College of Surgeons ENT Surgical Tutor responsible for the Clinical and Educational Supervision of all the junior Surgeons passing through the ENT Department in EKHUFT from 2006 to 2021.

I was Honorary Clinical Tutor to Guys, St Thomas’ and Kings Hospitals Medical School from 2006 to 2014, and as such taught ENT Surgery to all the Medical Students seconded to EKHUFT from this Medical School.
