Mr. Henry Sharp

Henry has been a substantive Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon since January 2004.

He consults and operates on private patients at BMI Chaucer Hospital in Canterbury, The Spencer Wing (at The Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital, Margate), The Spencer Wing (at The William Harvey Hospital, Ashford) and at Spire St Saviours Hospital in Hythe.

His NHS practice is at The East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust (EKHUT) comprising The Kent and Canterbury Hospital, The William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, The Royal Victoria Hospital in Folkestone and The Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate.   

Henry is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of all aspects of Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery, with super-specialist knowledge in the medical and surgical treatment of problems that arise with the structure and function of the nose in both his NHS and Private Practice (a Rhinologist and Nasal Plastic Surgeon).

His particular surgical interest is in rhinoplasty (a 'nose-job', or operation to alter the shape of the nose) and Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (F.E.S.S) which is surgery performed on the nose and sinuses for long standing sinus problems and nasal polyps.

Education

Henry qualified in Medicine (MBBS) at St Thomas' Hospital in London, and received his basic ENT training in Oxford and at Charing Cross and The Brompton Hospitals in London.

His higher surgical training as a Specialist Registrar in ENT Surgery was undertaken in London, and he was based at Guys, St Thomas' and Kings Hospitals. He received super-specialised paediatric training at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and The Evelina Childrens Hospital at St Thomas' Hospital in London.

In 2003, Henry undertook a Fellowship in advanced Sinus Surgery and Facial Plastic Surgery at an internationally renown centre in Fulda, Germany helped by a grant from The Royal Society of Medicine.

Qualifications

Henry is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) in both General Surgery and in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery and an accredited surgeon by the Specialist Advisory Committee in Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery.

At the completion of his training he was awarded his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) by the Specialist Training Authority of the Royal Colleges of Surgery.

Henry is a member of The British Medical Association (BMA), The Royal Society of Medicine (RSM), The British Association of Otorhinolaryngologists - Head and Neck Surgeons (ENT-UK), The British Rhinological Society (BRS), The European Rhinologic Society (ERS) and The European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery (EAFPS).

Other responsibilities

Henry is the Lead Clinician for Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery at East Kent Hospitals University Foundation NHS Trust.

In addition to his NHS clinical duties, Henry is The Royal College of Surgeons ENT Surgery College Tutor responsible for the teaching and mentoring of all junior ENT Surgeons in East Kent.

In 2006, he was selected to be Honorary Clinical Tutor to Guys, St Thomas' and Kings Hospitals Medical School, and teaches ENT Surgery to all the Medical Students seconded to EKHUT from this Medical School.
